mommy makeover definition - "Plastic surgery procedures for postpartum women to restore their body to a more youthful appearance typically combining breast and abdominal surgery together."
In 2007, the term "mommy makeover" began appearing throughout the media due to a significant rise in breast lifts, breast augmentation and tummy tucks that occurred between 2005 and 2006. This boom was partially attributed to postpartum mothers who wanted to regain their pre-pregnancy figure. Since that time, the interest and popularity of these procedures has continued to rise.
The typical patient seeking mommy makeover type procedures is between the ages of 25 to 39 and is done having children. They have lost their pregnancy weight through normal diet and exercise but cannot erase the physical changes of multiple pregnancies.
The most common issues post pregnancy issues are:
• Breast volume loss
• Breast sagging
• Stretch marks
• Difficult to lose/ Extra fat
• Muscle separation/ Abdominal bulge
• Loose skin
These issues can be corrected by performing a combination of breast and abdominal plastic surgery. The benefits of performing these procedures together include a single recovery phase and a reduction of cost.
During your consultation, one of our board certified plastic surgeons will obtain a history and physical that focuses on your concerns and body changes
• Questions: Current bra size, desired bra size, number of pregnancies, future plans, how your breast and abdomen has changed, previous breast and abdominal surgery
• Breast Exam: Breast evaluation and measurements specifically looking for breast asymmetry, size, volume loss, sagging, nipple position
• Abdominal Exam: Scarring, amount of skin above and below belly button, stretch marks, muscle separation, excess fat locations
• Recommendations will be based on all these considerations with your ultimate goal in mind.
This is the most common question we receive and also the most important decision to address during your consultation. Let's make it simple by looking at these flow charts.

Inframammary Fold Incision
This is the most common incision for breast augmentation because the scar is essentially hidden underneath the breast near the crease. You do not see it when looking in the mirror and it is hidden underneath all clothes, bras and bikinis. Great access and results from this incisions.
Hidden along the color change and curve of the lower areola. Can be a very discreet scar in some patients. If it doesn't heal well, then can be visible in a mirror. Slightly higher risk of infection and capsular contracture since dissecting near the breast ducts.
Well hidden along the curve of the upper belly button. Also called the Scarless Breast Augmentation since there are no breast incisions. Can only be performed with saline implants.
Potentially the most visible incision if it doesn't heal well since can be seen with tank tops.
This is the another common question we receive and it is very important to understand which procedure will give you the best results. Let's make it simple by looking at these flow charts.
