At Augusta Laser and Skin Center we use the Lumenis LightSheer. The light emitted by the LightSheer diode laser is well absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. During the procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, long enough to heat up the hair and significantly impede the follicle’s ability to re-grow. This process also treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously. Therefore, LightSheer is appropriate for treating even the largest areas of the body both quickly and effectively.
An important part of the procedure is the cooling of the skin. A special contact-cooling handpiece allows treatment of even the most sensitive skin. It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each laser pulse while directing the laser energy to the hair root.

• Shave the area to be treated so that it is free of all hair.
• The area to be treated should be clean, without lotion, creams, make-up, sun block, perfume, or any other chemicals or skin care products.
What to expect during the treatment:
• The technician will apply a cool, conducting gel to the treatment area. This is to ensure optimum skin contact for maximum effectiveness.
• The technician will then systematically treat the area. For most patients, the sensation is a mild "hot pinch" that goes away nearly instantly.
What to expect after each treatment:
• Treated skin may appear pink or slightly red for a about a day.
• The hair in the treated area will continue to grow. In order to achieve maximum results, patients should follow the Augusta Laser and Skin Center Hair Removal Protocol of six treatments per area.
