Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation, Augusta, GA
Enhancing your figure

Breast augmentation is now the most common cosmetic surgery operation in the United States with approximately 350,000 women having breast implants this past year. The return of silicone implants in November of 2006 has partly attributed to this increase. Approximatley 60% of patients are choosing silicone implants due to the more natural feel of these implants. However, 40% are still choosing saline implants which have proven to provide a great result as well.

What does breast enhancement at Augusta Plastic Surgery involve?
The purpose of breast implants is to increase a woman’s breast volume and shape. This breast implant surgery involves thel insertion of a saline or silicone implant behind each breast, usually, in part at least, behind the chest muscle .

There are a few different methods that can be used to insert and position your implant. The incision can be made either in the crease where the breast meets the chest, around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple) or at the belly button. You and your surgeon will decide which method is right for you, based on your anatomy and goals for augmentation. Dr. Ewart, Dr. Smith, and Dr. Lynn will do their best to ensure that your scars are as inconspicuous as possible.

Breast enhancement surgery usually lasts one to two hours. It is performed as an outpatient procedure.

What should I expect after breast enlargement?
You’ll probably feel tired and sore for a few days after surgery, but you’ll be up and around the day of surgery. You should be able to return to work within a few days, if your job isn’t too strenuous. We will have you wear a sports bra for several weeks to allow the swelling to resolve and allow everything to heal properly.

The implants will often appear high immediately after surgery (especially when place below the muscle) but will gradually settle over the next couple weeks and months with time and massage.

Saline or Silicone Implants? How do I choose? This is perhaps the most common question we receive from patients wanting a breast augmentation. We have provided a table with the pros and cons of each type to provide you with as much information as possible.
