BOTOX®
Augusta Plastic Surgery can help reduce many of your facial wrinkles with a non-surgical treatment called BOTOX® Wrinkle Reduction. This is the most popular form. Dysport is the other form of Botox that is available but since it is not as popular and not any more effective, we use Botox®.
What is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is short for botulinum toxin, a sterile, injectable extract. It is a nerve impulse blocker that weakens a given muscle enough to reduce overlying wrinkles. Because it can be used very selectively, BOTOX® does not prevent that muscle from carrying out its normal function, such as smiling or blinking.
Unlike surgical wrinkle reduction procedures, BOTOX® is reversible. In the average patient, its maximum effect is usually realized by the end of the second week and lasts four to six months. Because the toxin is gradually eliminated, enhancements are temporary and require repeated injections to maintain.
Augusta Plastic Surgery also offers wrinkle reduction treatments using Erbium laser peels and Fractional laser tratments, which work best for deeper lines and wrinkles, or microlaser peels. Check with your doctor to see which procedure is best for you.
