Dermal fillers require minimal downtime, though some swelling and bruising is expected. Recovery varies by treatment area — lips swell more than cheeks, for example.

Hours 0-24: Immediately After

  • Swelling is the primary side effect — especially pronounced in lips (expect to look “overfilled” initially)
  • Small bruises possible, particularly around eyes and lips
  • Apply ice intermittently (10 minutes on, 10 off)
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive heat for 24 hours

Days 1-3: Peak Swelling

Swelling peaks at 24-48 hours. The treated area may feel firm or lumpy — this is normal. Don’t massage or press the filler unless instructed.

Days 4-7: Swelling Resolves

Results move closer to the final outcome. Most patients feel comfortable at social events by day 5-7.

Weeks 2-4: Final Results

Filler fully integrates with your tissue and feels soft and natural. A follow-up may be scheduled to assess whether a touch-up is needed.

Months 6-18: Maintenance

Filler gradually metabolizes. Schedule maintenance before it’s completely gone for the most consistent look.

Important: contact your injector immediately if you notice white spots, severe pain, or vision changes — rare but urgent signs of vascular occlusion. Also avoid dental work for 2 weeks after lip filler.
